Incapable. Awkward. Artless. That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: she wants to fail. Gifted with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested. Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight. Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape. Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back.
There was a lot of hype around the twitterverse on this book
so I figured I’d read it and hoped I’d love it like everyone else did. Well I
can’t say I’m as obsessed as the rest of twitter I did really like the story.
Gennifer has literally woven a beautiful world (even if I did hate everything
it stood for). I’ve actually put writing this review off for a few days so I
could gather my thought about Crewel.
So now here I am trying to figure out what to say still. Like I said I really
liked this one I just can’t come up with much to say.
I loved the characters and like I said her world building was
amazing. I think I just lost focus when she started talking about the weaving
aspect of the story especially in the beginning. I don’t know maybe that was
overdone a bit, in my opinion because during those scenes I tended to lose
focus to fade in and out. I am really looking forward to then next book though
because it’s set in a different place and there was a good twist at the end
that I’m really excited to see where it leads us, and I really enjoyed Gennifer’s
writing. And I did fall in love with one of the male characters it wasn’t gut
wrenching OMG I have to have him love but Jost was pretty darned smexy.
So I chose a scene between Jost and Adelice. Enjoy!
Jost is waiting for me in
the hall and the young stewardess flashes me a grin as she disappears around
the corner. “Nice to see some enthusiasm,” he says dryly. ‘Erik is checking to
make sure everything is in order.”
“Great.”
I can’t think of anything
to say to him, so I press my lips together apologetically. I hate having to
pretend he’s beneath me, but I don’t want anyone questioning our familiarity
with each other.
“I know,” he whispers.
“I’m sorry.” The
understanding look he’s giving me makes me feel worse.
“Hey, I told you to play
dumb.”
I nod and vertigo from the
rebound sends me reeling forward. Jost catches me easily, and my arms tingle
where he touches my bare skin. The sensation travels up my arms and settles in
the nape of my neck. I know I should pull away, but before I can, the click of
shoes in the hall behind us startles us apart. Jost casually steps back as Erik
comes into view.
Make sure you pre-order it and add it to your goodreads lists!
