A New York Times bestselling author brings dark secrets to life in a lush new YA perfect for fans of Libba Bray or Cassandra Clare.
Society girls from New York City circa 1890, Dacia and Lou never desired to know more about their lineage, instead preferring to gossip about the mysterious Romanian family that they barely knew. But upon turning seventeen, the girls must return to their homeland to meet their relatives, find proper husbands, and—most terrifyingly—learn the deep family secrets of The Claw, The Wing, and The Smoke. The Florescus, after all, are shape-shifters, and it is time for Dacia and Lou to fulfill the prophecy that demands their acceptance of this fate . . . or fight against this cruel inheritance with all their might.
With a gorgeous Romanian setting, stunning Parisian gowns, and dark brooding young men, readers will be swept up by this epic adventure of two girls in a battle for their lives.
Now on to the interview!
Is there going to be a sequel? I’d love to read more about the world and the end of SITB although it was complete left room for more.

Hi Jessica! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books!
I loved SILVER IN THE BLOOD and am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!
For the readers: can you tell us a
little bit about SILVER IN THE BLOOD and the characters?
Silver in the Blood is about two
fashionable young ladies, cousins from New York City, who travel to Romania in
1896 to finally meet their mothers’ family. They think it will just be more
parties and shopping and travel, as they’re used to, but it turns out their
family has a shocking secret, and they may never be allowed to leave.
Is there going to be a sequel? I’d love to read more about the world and the end of SITB although it was complete left room for more.
I have ideas a-brewin’….
Were any of the
characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?
Not
really . . . generally if someone did inspire a character, by the time they’ve
been committed to paper and then run up and down a Romanian mountainside
they’re unrecognizable!
Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?
I love
writing both Dacia and Lou equally, because they were so different and yet so
close. I didn’t really have a least favorite character, though I tried hard to
make Lady Ioana come off as menacing and not cartoon-evil.
What is your favorite passage/scene in SILVER IN THE BLOOD?
Lou
freaking out and hitting That Awful Man with her parasol is high on my list . .
.
What kind of research did you have to do for the story?
I
actually traveled around Romania for two weeks with a Romanian guide. I told
him that I needed to know everything about Vlad the Impaler and the late 19th
century, and he took us to every palace and monastery he thought would help!
What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
I just
finished Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta, which was great, and I’m
excited to read The Last Enchantment by the late, wonderful Graham Joyce.
Who is your ultimate Book Boyfriend?
Paul
Atreides of Dune. He’s the Kwisatz Haderach, how does it get any better?
What inspired you to write YA?
My
mental age is around 16.

Silver in the Blood seems like an interesting book. I haven't heard much about it, but I would consider reading it.

ReplyDeleteYour height is both within and outside your control. Here are some of the factors that influence a person's height, some of which you can change with effort, while others are not modifiable no matter how much you try.
