A Healer without home or purpose, seventeen-year-old Evie Carew has found the perfect place to disappear: Rood Marsh. She can easily fade into its vast wilderness of towering reeds; leave behind the growing violence that is claiming her innocent world. Leave behind the tragedy that broke her heart and sent her far from her grandmother, cousin Lark and all she once loved.
But Evie is not alone in the marsh. A seer, a Rider, and Breeders of Chaos all hunt her—for though opposed in objective, her seekers share knowledge she does not: Evie is one of the four Guardians of Tarnec, one who can help save the world from the coming destruction if she can reclaim the stolen amulet of Death. But whether she meets true love or a brutal end on such a journey is a matter of who finds her first.
Now on to the interview.
Hi Sandra! First, I want to say welcome back to Two
Chicks on Books! I am looking forward to
SILVER EVE and I know my readers are as well, and am so happy that you could
stop by for a visit!
Hi Jaime! Thank you so much
for inviting me into your book world!
For the readers: can you
tell us a little bit about SILVER EVE and the characters? Will we see many characters from LARK RISING
in this one?
Here’s my nutshell
description of SILVER EVE (Book 2 in the Guardians of Tarnec series): A 17-yr-old healer hides in the wilds of Rood
Marsh, hunted by a seer, a Rider, and Breeders of Chaos. Whether she fulfills her charge to reclaim
the amulet of Death, finds true love, or meets a brutal end is a matter of
which enemy finds her first.
To those familiar with the
series, Book 2 follows Lark’s cousin Evie on her own quest as a Guardian. You
will see many familiar faces from Book 1, but fair warning, this moves the
quest into a darker, more violent world.
What about book 3? Do we have a title yet?
Only my working title (which
means it probably won’t see the light of day): IN SHADOW.
Were any of the characters
in the book inspired by people from your real life?
There’s a rather unpleasant
character I based upon my seventh grade best-friend-turned-enemy.
Who was your favorite
character to write? What about your
least favorite?
Well, I always love Harker,
he’s just so odd and sad. There isn’t
really a least favorite character, but I would say the most difficult was
Lark—it was tough to write her from the ‘outside looking in’ since I’d spent so much time in her head in LARK RISING!
What is your favorite
passage/scene in SILVER EVE?
I like Evie and Laurent’s
first confrontation.
J
What kind of research did
you have to do for the story?
That’s the great thing
about fantasy—it’s my world, and this story in particular was truly sprung from
imagination. I do have an encyclopedia of magical herbs on hand, tho’.
What are you reading right
now? Or what do you have on your TBR
that you’re dying to read?
I’m currently finishing JACKABY,
by William Ritter. Next up on the 6-foot
TBR pile is Ronald L. Smith’s HOODOO. I
have Holly Black and Leigh Bardugo and Laini Taylor and Maggie Stiefvater,
Elizabeth Wein… (all long overdue) and that’s just YA—I’m dying for everything.
Who is your ultimate Book
Boyfriend?
If I only get one, I’ll
have to pick Charles Darcy. He comes with Pemberley.
What inspired you to write
YA?
I guess I just wanted to
write what I love to read.

Sandra Waugh:
Sandra
grew up in an old house full of crowded bookshelves, in walking distance of an
old library that allowed her to drag home a sack of six books at a time. It
goes without saying, then, that she fell in love with the old house in
Litchfield County, CT, because of its many bookshelves, and she lives there now
with her husband, two sons, and a dog who snores. Loudly.
LARK
RISING is her first novel and the first in the GUARDIANS OF TARNEC series.
SILVER EVE follows in 2015.

Lark has foreseen two things—she will fall for a young man with sage green eyes, and he will kill her.
Sixteen-year-old Lark Carew is happiest close to home, tending her garden and gathering herbs for medicines. But when her Sight warns her that monsters called Troths will soon invade her village, Lark is summoned on a journey to seek help from the legendary Riders of Tarnec. Little does she suspect that one of the Riders, Gharain, is the very man who has haunted her visions. Or that the people of Tarnec have called her there for another reason: Lark is the Guardian of Life, the first of four Guardians who must awaken their powers to recover four stolen amulets. Together, the amulets—Life, Death, Dark, and Light—keep the world in Balance. To take back the Life amulet, Lark will have to discover her true inner strength and give in to a love that she swears will be her downfall.
