A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness for their planet, and protect them from destruction. Some say Flynn’s a madman, others whisper about conspiracies. Nobody knows the truth. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were rescued from a terrible shipwreck—now, they live a public life in front of the cameras, and a secret life away from the world’s gaze.
Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head. Gideon Marchant is an eighteen-year-old computer hacker—a whiz kid and an urban warrior. He’ll climb, abseil and worm his way past the best security measures to pull off onsite hacks that others don’t dare touch.
Sofia Quinn has a killer smile, and by the time you’re done noticing it, she’s got you offering up your wallet, your car, and anything else she desires. She holds LaRoux Industries responsible for the mysterious death of her father and is out for revenge at any cost.
When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. But working together might be the best chance they have to expose the secrets LRI is so desperate to hide.
Now on to the interview!
Hi Amie and Meagan! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books! I freaking love the STARBOUND series and can’t wait to read THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT! And I am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!
What is your favorite passage/scene in THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT?
Hi Amie and Meagan! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books! I freaking love the STARBOUND series and can’t wait to read THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT! And I am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!
Yaaaaay, thank you for having us! We’re so excited to be here,
and we’re SO excited that Their Fractured Light is finally out in the world!
For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about
the STARBOUND series and the characters?
The trilogy’s set way into the
future, when humans have colonized dozens of worlds throughout our galaxy. Each
of the books follows a new star-crossed couple (though that doesn’t mean you
don’t see old characters), and each involves the same huge corporation—LaRoux
Industries.
These Broken Stars follows the story of
Lilac and Tarver, who are shipwrecked on a planet that shouldn’t exist at all,
and discover mystery after mystery as they search for a way to be rescued.
Imagine if Jack and Rose from Titanic got shipwrecked on the island from Lost…
now you’re there.
This Shattered World follows the story
of Flynn and Jubilee, and is set on a planet in the middle of being
terraformed. He’s rebelling against the corporation that rules them, and she’s
a soldier who should be stopping the rebellion—but they begin to realize that
both sides are involved in something much larger than they’ve ever dreamed.
Think Romeo and Juliet in a warzone.
Their Fractured Light is the story of
Gideon and Sofia, and finally brings the reader to Corinth, the capital of the
galaxy. He’s a hacker, and she’s from the terraforming colony we’ve already
visited—they’re both criminals, and as they set out to bring the biggest
corporation in the galaxy to justice, they discover that finding a way to trust
each other might be their biggest challenge. It’s a huge finale to the series,
and for those who have wanted to see more of the characters from past books…
you’re going to enjoy it a lot.
How was it writing the finale? Was it bittersweet?
It totally was! We love these
characters, and we’ve spent so much time in their worlds. We know all their
quirks, all their ins and outs, and lots of things about them we’ve never
shared with readers! We’re so proud of the way we’ve ended the trilogy, but
gosh, it’s hard to leave them behind.
In THESE BROKEN STARS and THIS SHATTERED WORLD we
get stories from different perspectives how will they all tie in to THEIR
FRACTURED LIGHT?
Their Fractured Light will introduce us
to two new characters, both of whom have ties to the characters who have gone
before. We first met Gideon as the Knave of Hearts, a hacker employed by Lilac
and Tarver in This Shattered World.
We first met Sofia on the planet Avon, where she helped hide Flynn from the soldiers.
But both of them have ties that go further back than that, even if they don’t
yet know it. We’ve been planting seeds about this book since the very opening
of These Broken Stars, and we don’t
want to give too much away, but it’s safe to say that everything’s been leading
to the big moments of this book, in ways our readers have never guessed!
Who was your favorite character to write? What
about your least favorite?
Noooo! That’s like asking us which
body part we’d most like to keep, and which we’d like to lose! Our favorite is,
genuinely, whoever we’re writing at the time. We get so deep into the
characters when we write their story, we can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere
else. And there’s nobody we don’t like to write – if we don’t enjoy it, our readers
won’t, so if we don’t enjoy them, they don’t make it into the book!
What is your favorite passage/scene in THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT?
We don’t want to give too much away, but we’ll say it involves
dancing… and it’s achingly beautiful.
What are
you each working on now? Now that the STARBOUND series is over?
Oooh, lots of stuff! In fact, for
readers who want to keep up with what we’re writing, we definitely recommend subscribing to our newsletter—we share behind the scenes snippets there!
Right now we’re working on the draft
of Unearthed, which is the first book in our new series, which we pitched as ‘Indiana
Jones meets Lara Croft… in space’. Meg’s also working on edits for Hunted, her Russian-inspired Beauty and the Beast meets The Firebird retelling.
Amie’s in the design stages for book two in the Illuminae Files, and also drafting book one of her new
middle grade series, Elementals.
In other words, we’re very busy.
Thanks so
much Amie and Meagan for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to
read THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT? And I can’t wait to see what you write next!
Thank you sooooo much for having us!
