Eighteen-year-old Blanca has lived a sheltered life. Her entire childhood has been spent at Tabula Rasa School where she’s been protected from the Internet. Blanca has never been online and doesn’t even know how to text. Her lack of a virtual footprint has made her extremely valuable and upon graduation Blanca, and those like her, are sold to the highest bidders. Blanca is purchased by Cal McNeal, who uses her to achieve personal gain. But the McNeal’s are soon horrified by just how obedient and non-defiant Blanca is. All those mind-numbing years locked away from society have made her mind almost impenetrable. By the time Blanca is ready to think for herself, she is trapped. Her only chance of escape is to go online.

A Favorite Scene from “Genesis Girl”
Do you like a book with twists and turns? Have you ever slammed a book
shut and fought to catch your breath after reading a startling revelation? If
you are a reader who enjoys being messed with, then “Genesis Girl” will
hopefully deliver a story you won’t forget.
Most of my favorite scenes from “Genesis Girl” revolve around big
moments where main characters (and the reader) make key realizations. If I
shared them with you now, the surprises would be ruined. So instead, I’ll
highlight a key moment that happens early on in the plot, which is when Blanca
first shares “The Vestal Blessing” with a stranger she meets at the county
jail.
Blanca is part of a quasi-religious order called Vestals, who only wear
white and shield themselves from the Internet. Blanca believes her life has a
holy purpose, and she’s eager to tell anyone she meets why their tech-addicted
life is wrong.
When Blanca shares the Vestal Blessing, she sincerely believes it.
“You have a hard road.
In so many ways it’s difficult being you. But I know that you can do it. You
have everything you need to achieve happiness.”
What do you think? Do you find the Vestal Blessing comforting … or creepy?
