A new, gripping novel, searing
the past to the present,
bringing generations
together, taking one family apart.
Told in alternate
chapters, located, mainly, in South-West Scotland, this is the intense story of
modern-day Patrick, set against the compelling, dramatic life of his
grandfather, John.
Patrick grew up never
knowing his grandfather.
Why were they kept apart?
What secret split the
family?
Patrick needs to find out,
but only if he can unite with his own daughter, Sophie, first.
Driven by the desire to
see her again, Patrick decides he must visit France to take Sophie away from
the care of her mother, Patrick's ex-wife, Maria.
It does not go to plan.
In 1915, with the war
raging in Europe, John works the family farm, not yet old enough to enlist but
aware of its looming threat. He meets Catherine. It is the start of something
wonderful. It is the start of something terrible...
Now on to the interview!
Hey RR! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you
could stop by for a chat! TWO TIDES TO TURN sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for
everyone to read it!
For the readers:
can you tell us a little bit about the TWO TIDES TO TURN and the characters?
Two Tides To Turn is set, mainly, in rural Scotland.
Part historical drama, part psychological thriller, it is two combined stories
of love and grief.
In the modern day, Patrick is desperate to
unite his family and investigate his mysterious grandfather, John. And it is
John’s dramatic story, starting from the time of the First World War.
Were any of the
characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?
No characters inspired the book, but the idea
for the story came from my own life: I never met my grandfather. I had thought,
until recently, that he’d died before I was born – it wasn’t the case. When I visited his grave, it was strange
to discover that we had lived, for several years, a mere two miles away. I do
not know why we were kept apart. In this book, I came up with a reason. A
rather unpleasant one.
Who was your
favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?
Truly, I enjoyed writing all of them,
highlighting their many flaws. However, Catherine is the nicest person I’ve
ever written.
What is your
favorite passages/scenes in TWO TIDES TO TURN?
There is one in Patrick’s story and another
in John’s. Each one took days to write. But, sorry, I cannot reveal much more as
both are pivotal moments, and I wouldn’t want to spoil any surprises.
What kind of
research did you have to do for the story?
I read a lot of old local newspapers, held in
the library on microfiche, to get a sense of the rural community at the time of
the First World War.
Who is your
ultimate book villain?
Ernst Stavro Blofeld
What inspired you
to write this book?
As I mentioned before, something similar
happened to me. I never found out the reason for never meeting my grandfather.
I wanted to create one for these characters.
Lightning Round
