Olivia has learned that life doesn’t always go the way you want it to go. She didn’t expect to be a widow and a single mother at a young age. Olivia’s life changes for the better when she meets a woman who in time becomes a second mom to her. She spends her days and nights taking care of the woman.

Growing up, Luke destined to be a Hollywood star just like his famous screenwriter father, becomes addicted to the celebrity life in Hollywood and lives for the camera’s attention. It makes him feel good that guys want to be him and women want to be with him. He can’t get enough of the fame.

Luke shows up unannounced at his mother’s house after years of not speaking to her, and he finds out that his mother has a live-in caregiver, Olivia. Luke and Olivia don’t hit it off at first, but soon Luke comes to realize that the first impression isn’t always the right impression. Sometimes there’s more than meets the eye.

EXCERPT:
Prologue
Olivia
I walk around town feeling numb after leaving the cemetery. This wasn’t part of our grand plan. We were supposed to be together forever. My future, my life, my love, is all gone just like that.

The rain is coming down at a fast pace. I don’t have my umbrella and I don’t care if I get sick and end up in the hospital. It’s not the worst thing that can happen to me since I’m already living in my own hell.

Three hours of walking and my legs feel like they can’t go any further. I sit down on the wet sidewalk and cry myself uncontrollably. “Why Ethan?” I repeat to myself over and over wishing I had the answer to my own question. People are walking past me on the street. They probably think I’m crazy and maybe I am. I didn’t think my life would be over at nineteen.

A warm hand touches my shoulder. “It’s going to be alright, honey.”

I shake my head at the stranger. She doesn’t get it. It’s not going to be alright. He is gone.

She joins me on the sidewalk and holds me until I stop crying. By the time my eyes dry, I see that the sun has already set and the streetlights are coming on. “Let’s get you cleaned up and into some dry clothes so you don’t catch a cold.” She offers her  hand to me and pulls me up. I normally don’t trust strangers, but I have lost all willpower to give a shit about what happens to me anymore.

We walk to her house where she lets me take a bath and hands me a pair of clean clothes. I take my time in the bathtub, staring down at my cellphone at the photo from our wedding day. We looked so happy in the picture. Ethan was an amazing guy. So loving, handsome, and caring.

We were married for less than a year and now I’m a widow.

A light tap at the door brings me back to my sad reality. “Honey, are you alright in there?”

I dry my tears. “Yes, I will be right out,” I tell her.

The clothes she gave me are too big on me but comfortable. I walk down the long hall and into the kitchen where the woman is sitting down at the table. I look around at her clean and shiny kitchen. It’s so spotless. “I hope you like tea.” She says, handing me a warm cup.

I nod and join her at the table.

She reaches for my hand. “I know the pain you are going through right now. My husband died last year from a heart attack.” She is a stranger. We never met before today. How does she know that I lost my husband? “I was visiting my husband’s grave when I saw you at the service not too far from where I was. I don’t mean to be nosey, but you look very young.”

That is because I am. Ethan and I met when we were only thirteen. My friends thought I was crazy  when I told them that I was going to marry him one day, but it happened. He was my soulmate. He’s the only boyfriend I ever had. The only love I have ever known.

“I’m nineteen.”

She looks at me with sympathy. “You poor thing. Where’s your family? Your parents?”

When Ethan got accepted into the army, I knew he was going to be away training so I moved with him a day after our graduation. My parents didn’t approve of our relationship. They never believed that Ethan and I were going to be together forever. Mom wanted me to go to college to have a “bright future”. There wasn’t a future without Ethan. I didn’t care what they thought. I just knew that I needed to be with him. I haven’t spoken to my parents since the day I left their house.

“I don’t have any family.”

The woman keeps holding my hand. “I’m Katherine. What’s your name, sweetheart?”

About Hattie:

Hattie has had a love for romance as far as she can remember. Always believing in fairly tales and happy endings.

She spent most of her time reading about romance until one day when she realized she wanted to write her own novel. A romance novel. Her dream to release a romance novel came true when she released "Better With You" in 2019.

When she isn't sitting in front of her laptop writing, she likes spending her time with her furry pets and reading books about romance. Most of her time is spent plotting new stories and creating characters that people can relate to.
