All I’ve ever tried to do is keep the people in my life safe. That’s gotten me into hot water more times than I can count. Hell, the last time got me four years behind bars.
So when my favorite barista tells her mom that I’m her boyfriend to stop the woman’s endless criticism, I can’t stop myself from helping her out. But she’s too innocent and I’m too damaged for this to ever be the real deal.
I can’t allow myself to touch her, not when making her mine will drag her into my world and drown her in my messed up life. What I really need to do is stay away.
Except every touch and every accidental kiss breaks my control. I want her.
Then I find out her dad is the detective who put me away...and he’s trying to take down my family.
I don’t blame him. The secrets I’m keeping are big enough to destroy everything.
Interview
Hey Angela!! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! KEEP ME WANTING sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!
For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the KEEP ME WANTING and the characters?
Thanks so much for having me here! I’m really excited to be talking about my new release with you.
Keep Me Wanting is about Liam Doyle, an ex-con with a heart of gold and Maggie Chandler, daughter of the detective who put him away. Maggie doesn’t know Liam’s backstory, not completely anyway, he’s just a customer at her coffee shop that she can’t stop drooling over. What she does know is that he looks a heck of a lot like the guy she told her mother she was dating. Just a minor problem that her mother is on her way to meet this perfect boyfriend and Maggie hasn’t actually worked up the nerve to talk to him yet.
Maggie needs a date for her family reunion and Liam needs a way to stick close to her so he can keep her safe. He wants to make her happy even if he knows he’s exactly the wrong kind of guy for a girl like her.
This story is all about wanting what we can’t have and somehow finding a way to make it work so everyone is happy. They’re from very different worlds and there are so many reasons why they shouldn’t be together but when you find that person it’s totally worth fighting for it, isn’t it?
What are you working on now?
I’m always working on a few things at the same time. I’m finishing up with an erotic romance I started a few months ago which got sidelined by editing work and I’m also working on a proposal with my editor for a new project. I like to keep busy so my schedule is pretty full all the time.
Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?
Ohhhh, no, that’s a secret I’m not going to tell. I will say that there are bits and pieces of real life experiences I’ve had that happen in the book, you can guess which ones. ;)
Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?
I can’t pick a favorite! I loved writing this book a lot. It’s very different from any of my other books to date so it demanded a lot from me in terms of pushing outside of my comfort zone. I’ve enjoyed every part of writing it though and that goes for the characters too.
What is your favorite passages/scenes in KEEP ME WANTING?
Any scene where Maggie gets a smile out of Liam...like a dimple producing smile. Those feel like the sweetest moments between my characters and I know Maggie just loves it when he shows those bad boys off.
I also had a lot of fun writing the games that are played at the reunion. Maggie’s family likes to be silly at times, competitive at others. Reading those scenes always makes me smile because the characters are having such a good time.
What kind of research did you have to do for the story?
Research for this story was very much centered around travel distances in and around Boston, millennial career choices, attitudes, behaviors and also what falls into the realm of felonies in the United States. I also had to look up native planets to Massachusetts. Oh yeah, and fun party games that you can do at family reunions! Quite a mix match of things, right?
Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?
I’m forever committed to two men, because why make things easy? Barrons from the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning and Wrath from the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. Both are big, bad and totally lickable.
What inspired you to write romance?
That’s the genre that I was immersed in when I first started writing for publication. I was in a writing group run by Kelley Armstrong years and years ago. Kelley’s Otherworld series was just getting going and I would say that was a huge influence on me.
Lightning Round Questions
What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
I’m reading Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I know I’m late to that particular party but it was recommended to me recently so I thought I’d give it a go. I’m really enjoying the world Maas has created and her characters are awesome!
What Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat place you in?
This is an interesting question because I would want to be put into Slytherin, and yes, a lot of that has to do with my big crush on Snape but I think the sorting hat would put me into Gryffindor or maybe Ravenclaw...ugh, so hard to choose! I definitely identify with a variety of characteristics from each house so maybe I’d be a challenge for the sorting hat. Story of my life.
Twitter or Facebook?
Fb for sure. I like the interactions there better and Twitter seems so crowded. Although I do get a lot of my news related info from Twitter.
Favorite Superhero?
Rogue from Xmen! Not only is she a fellow redhead but she is also super kickass. I love that she has all these tragic circumstances attached to her powers and that she’s deeply flawed as well.
Favorite TV show?
Of all time or right now? Of all time, I’d have to go with Buffy the Vampire Slayer for sure. Right now, I’m still stuck on Grey’s Anatomy. Two very different shows for sure but my viewing tastes are...well...complicated.
Sweet or Salty?
Do I really have to choose?
Any Phobias?
I’m not a big lake person. I wouldn’t say I’m phobic, but I wouldn’t willingly go into a lake, especially if it’s murky looking. Ick!
Song you can’t get enough of right now?
Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine
2020 Movie you’re most looking forward to?
Birds of Prey with Margot Robbie. I’ve definitely got a thing for villains and for strong female characters, plus my daughter really wants to go see it too so it’ll be a nice mother-daughter date.
Thanks so much Angela for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to read KEEP ME WANTING!
