Leah Giancarelli makes balancing her new role as
a single mom look easy, but she’d have crumbled if not for her late husband’s
best friend, Marcus. She has her issues with HORNET, an elite hostage rescue
team—after all, Danny would still be alive if he’d never accompanied them on
their last mission—but Marcus has always been by her side, a strong shoulder to
lean on…
Until, after one impulsive kiss, he’s so much
more.
Eaten alive by guilt, Marcus takes off, leaving
both HORNET and Leah behind. Alone is easier. Safer. Because his feelings for
Leah are all kinds of wrong, the worst kind of betrayal, and he can’t trust
himself not to act on them.
But Danny’s death was only the beginning.
Whoever hired the hitman is looking for something, and they think Leah knows
where it is...
Each book in the HORNET series is STANDALONE:

* Honor Avenged
Interview:
Hey Tonya! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on
Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! HONOR AVENGED sounds AWESOME and I
can’t wait for everyone to read it!
Glad to be here!
For the readers: can
you tell us a little bit about the HONOR AVENGED and the characters?
HONOR AVENGED is the
6th book in my HORNET series (but it can be read as a standalone!)
It focuses on Marcus and Leah as they cope with the loss of the man they both loved:
Danny. Marcus feels like he’s betraying his best friend by having feelings for
Leah, so he stays far away from her until a threat to her life brings them back
together and forces them to deal with their relationship and their grief.
What are you working
on now?
A few different
things. I’m working on EDGE OF HONOR (HORNET book 7—the last of the series!)
I’m also playing around with a romantic suspense trilogy about three brothers
looking for their missing father in Alaska and planning a new thriller series
about a woman and her search and rescue dog.
Were any of the
characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?
Nope. My character
are never based on real people. They’re all made up.
Who was your favorite
character to write? What about your least favorite?
In HONOR AVENGED, I
very much enjoyed writing Marcus’s mom, Regina. She’s an interesting lady.
My favorite
character in the entire HORNET series is Jean-Luc Cavalier. He’s just so much
fun. I had a blast with his book, RECKLESS HONOR (HORNET book 5), and he
lightens up any book he appears in. My least favorite to write was Harvard.
(Sorry, kid!) I’m never writing another hacker book.
What is your favorite
passages/scenes in HONOR AVENGED?
There’s a scene
toward the end of the book when Ian (the team’s explosives expert who everyone
not-so-affectionately calls “psycho”) tries to cheer up Marcus (a movie lover)
by quoting The Princess Bride. This is soooo out of character for Ian and he
messes up the quote, which makes Marcus laugh. It’s a great tender moment
between two very broken people. I love it.
What kind of research
did you have to do for the story?
Oh, just the usual
stuff: the civil war raging in Central African Republic, illegal diamond and
gold mining, black market organ trade...
(Yep. I’m on a
government watch list. No doubt about it.)
Other things I
researched that are less likely to land me on a TSA no-fly list: surfing, real
estate in Malibu and Bali, and the stages of grief.
Who is your ultimate
book boyfriend?
I love me a snarky
guy. Even better if he’s more than a little bit broken and uses humor to
deflect. I also love a tortured hero. Two of my favorites are Rhage and Zsadist
from JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood.
What inspired you to
write romance?
I’m not really sure.
It was always just a given I’d write romance. I was fairly young when I started
reading romance. Probably too young, but I’d sneak down to my grandma’s basement
and read through a box of old Harlequin historicals, and I loved them. For a
while in middle school, I flirted with the idea of writing mysteries, which I
adore, but even my mysteries contained romantic subplots. Then in early high
school I discovered romantic suspense (Iris Johansen!) and never looked back.
Lightning Round Questions
What are you reading
right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
I’m always reading
and/or listening to more than one book at any given time. For research I’m
currently listening to Scent of the Missing by Susannah Charleson about K9
search and rescue dogs and I’m reading Eight Lives Down by Chris Hunter about
Explosive Ordnance Disposal techs. For fun, I’m reading Whiteout by Adriana
Anders and I’m listening to A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones.
What Hogwarts House
would the Sorting Hat place you in?
I’m Hufflepuff. Not
going to lie, I was mad about it at first. I wanted to be Ravenclaw. But… the
hat was right. I’m such a Hufflepuff.
Instagram, Twitter or
Facebook?
Insta all the way! I
tolerate Facebook and despise Twitter.
Favorite Superhero?
Deadpool.
Favorite TV show?
Changes almost
weekly. Right now, I’m loving on Community. (Yes, I know I’ve very late to that
party!)
Sweet or Salty?
Both!
Any Phobias?
Not really.
Song you can’t get
enough of right now?
You Should Be Sad by
Halsey
2020 Movie you’re
most looking forward to?
I was looking
forward to Call of Wild, which I thought was absolutely charming. Also looking
forward to the live-action Mulan and I’m curious about Tenet.
Thanks so much Tonya for answering my questions! I can’t
wait for everyone to read HONOR AVENGED!
Thanks for having me! <3 o:p="">3>

When she's not writing about hunky military
heroes, Tonya can usually be found kayaking, hiking, or road tripping across
