Hey Tom!!
First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by
for a chat! ABCs AND 123s FOR BOYS sounds like a fun
and educational read for kids and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!
For the readers: can you tell us a
little bit about ABCs AND 123s FOR BOYS and why you decided to write it?
In searching for ABCs books for
boys, I found most were juvenile or creatively flat. So, I created 26 fun alphabet
scenes, rhymes, and characters. Each letter features a boy’s name. So, kids
will discover ALEX the alligator who is an amazing astronaut to ZACK the zebra
who ziplines over the zoo! Plus, we added fun animal scenes to help kids count
to 10. If kids are engaged in the story, they’re learning.
What are you working on now?
Of course, I’m writing ABCs and
123s for Girls.
I’m creating an ABCs and 123s
for Boys coloring book. I also wrote the first Pete the Pirate book.
It’s a series that features lessons and adventures of one of my favorite
characters in ABCs and 123s for Boys.
What is your favorite passages/letter
in ABCs AND 123s FOR BOYS?
Some of my favorite scenes include
little surprises for kids to discover. In the picnic scene for the letter H,
you’ll find ants sneaking away with a hotdog.
What inspired you to write kidlit?
My Dad tucked three boys into bed at
night and told us stories. Later, it was my turn to tuck two boys into bed and
read to them. I loved it as much as they did.
I want to create illustrated books
that ignite kid’s imagination and create the storytime bond that I enjoyed. Providing
a learning experience – helping preschoolers learn the alphabet, letter sounds,
and numbers – adds another rewarding dimension.

On my list is one of Richard Branson’s books. The philanthropist and
charismatic owner entrepreneur of the Virgin Group has always intrigued me.

Tom McLaughlin has been
writing for years, creating advertising for items ranging from toys and ice
cream to enormous construction equipment. Working for a book publishing
company, he also promoted New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling
books, authors, and illustrators.
Raising three energetic
kids, zigzagging cross country on family vacations, and growing up in a
typically crazy Catholic family have given Tom years of writing material.
The McLaughlin clan
