Being small is the worst! No one ever picks me
for their sports team and my feet hurt from standing on my tiptoes all the
time. There can't be anything good about being small...right? Being Small is a
picture book about a little girl who is scared to go to school because she's
the shortest kid in the class. She talks about all of the reasons that being
short is a challenge, but her mother presents to her funny and unique
advantages that only she has because of her height, instilling self-confidence
in her. This book is a must-read for any child who has ever fallen behind the
curve on the growth chart.
"A wonderful, read-aloud picture
book...highly recommended for personal and public library children's
collections." --Midwest Book Review
"The story itself works well; the artwork is colorful, detailed, and draws
the reader in. Kids of this early age group will love it. Being Small
(Isn't So Bad After All) by Lori Orlinsky is highly recommended."
--Readers Favorite
"With lovely illustrations that help to tell the little rhyming story
well, this is a great book for children who would like to know that their
height is never an issue in life; they re beautiful just the way they are!
Highly recommended for kids everywhere!" --Jed Doherty, Host/Executive
Producer, Reading With Your Kids Podcast

Review:
I
normally don't review kidlit books but this book is such a cute quick read!
Being small myself growing up and still being short now (at 5'2) this one really spoke
to me. It's a good reminder that there are advantages to being small, maybe we
don't get picked for the sports teams but we're always front and center in
class photos and we do get more legroom on airplanes! I think this book is
perfect for readers of all ages especially us small ones that need a reminder
that it's ok being short! I will be buying a couple copies of this book for my
neighbor's kids and my niece!

How does
Being Small take on bullying prevention?
“Being Small” isn’t
just for short kids. It can be used as a tool for bullying prevention. Simply
take out the word “short” and sub it for anything – gender, sexuality, skin
color. The message in the book is that we are all special and unique, and
rather than dwelling on being different, we should celebrate that. In addition,
it also provides all kids with some perspective on the power of their words.
