A night she can hardly remember. A night she will never forget.
It’s about Dan.
These three words jolt Brynn back to the big boozy night she spent with her
boyfriend Dan. The same night his ex, Erin, showed up. Erin says something
terrible happened that night. Dan says he never touched her. Trouble is, Erin
has evidence to prove it.
Brynn can vouch for him though. She was there that night that they can hardly
remember, but will never forget. While Brynn pieces together her fractured
memories, lost that night at the bottom of a bottle, facing the horrifying
possibility that maybe Dan isn’t completely innocent. Maybe he’s guilty as
charged.
But as Brynn inches closer to the truth, she begins to wonder: Who is the
predator? And who is the prey?
Gloria knows the answer. She’s a psychic who turned her back on her ability
after she failed to prevent a terrible tragedy. As her painful past floods back
to her, can she learn to trust her gift again before it’s too late? Or will her
painful past hold her back from saving someone’s future . . . and quite
possibly their life.
This addictive and suspenseful thriller explores the fault lines between broken
memories and shattered trust, and will keep you up well past your bedtime.
Interview:
Hey Rachel! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on
Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! KEEP ME IN SIGHT sounds AWESOME
and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!
For the readers: can
you tell us a little bit about the KEEP ME IN SIGHT and the characters?
Hi, and thanks for having me! Keep Me in Sight is a dark,
deadly twist on he said/she said, except ‘she’ has a ton of legally binding
evidence, and ‘he’ is going to spend about ten years in jail if he can’t prove
his innocence.
What are you working
on now?
I’m working on a new manuscript called Double Vision, about
a blind woman who gets cornea transplants from a donor who died a mysterious, violent
death. The memory of the unsolved mystery lives on in the donor corneas, which
the recipient sees and tries her level best to solve, without getting killed
herself.
Were any of the
characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?
I try not to base my characters off of people that I know
because then no one can get mad at me. J
Who was your favorite
character to write? What about your least favorite?
I have a character named The Blinder in an unpublished
manuscript that I just loved. He’s a hero and a villain with a very interesting
sense of right and wrong. My least? That’s a very hard question! My least
favorite characters are the ones that are hard to envision. The mind meld
process with these types of characters tends to mess with my zen, to quote Jeff
Bridges in Tron.
What is your favorite
passages/scenes in KEEP ME IN SIGHT?
Some of my favorite passages were left on the cutting room
floor! My editor said something about killing my darlings, while my left eye
twitched. But the book is much better for it, she assured me.
What kind of research
did you have to do for the story?
I had to research things like how to snoop online, how to
track someone through his or her cell phone, and how to find out if someone has
a criminal record. Basically, how to generally be creepy and stalker-ish
because that’s not what I do in regular life!
Who is your ultimate
book villain?
Well, I think Rachel Caine really nailed it with her Melvin
Royale character. Smart, deadly, resourceful, humorous, yet very twisted.
What inspired you to
write a psychological thriller?
I’m really into the power of mind sort of stuff and reality
constructs. I think it’s a neat genre because so much of the plot turns and
twists are subtle and call into question a characters perception of
reality.
Lightning Round Questions
What are you reading
right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
I just finished book three in Rachel Caine’s Stillhouse Lake series. Now, I’m onto
book four. I also just finished reading Catch
and Kill by Ronan Farrow, which was probably one of the most riveting books
I’ve read in years, followed by Disloyal,
Michael Cohen’s recent memoir--also extremely memorable. On the fiction front, I’m
looking forward to new books by Natalie Barelli and Teresa Driscoll.
What Hogwarts House
would the Sorting Hat place you in?
I don’t know enough about the hats to be able to choose!
Isn’t that terrible?
Instagram, Twitter or
Facebook?
Oh dear. Anything but Facebook.
Favorite Superhero?
Did you know there are thousands of superheros in the Marvel
universe? My nephew taught me that. There’s one called Ancient One, who sounds pretty
cool. He’s the most powerful magician of all time, apparently. Maybe I’ll get
to meet him someday. ;)
Favorite TV show?
Not sure if it qualifies as TV, but I’m a big fan of
Westworld.
Sweet or Salty?
1000% salty.
Any Phobias?
I have a thing with heights and crowds. I live in Singapore
so personal space is always a problem. Social distancing is best thing that
ever happened to me haha.
Song you can’t get
enough of right now?
Said it All by Take That!
Fall/Winter 2020 Movie
you’re most looking forward to?
Are they still making movies??
Thanks so much Rachel for answering my questions! I can’t
wait for everyone to read KEEP ME IN SIGHT!
About Rachel:
Rachel is an American expat, living abroad since 2008. She lived in Sydney Australia for a number of years, Italy, Switzerland, and has sailed over 11,000 nautical miles, crossing the Indian Ocean three times and sinking only once. She hung up her foul weather gear after the birth of her son. And writes thrillers now instead.
She’s the proud granddaughter of two World War II fighter pilot war heros. Richard ‘Blackie’ Blackledge was a WWII B-17 heavy bomber pilot. Post war, he became a successful writer. And George Jensen flew the dreaded B-29 superfortress. They both lived on well into their 90s.
“I lost two special friends, and the world lost great men, but they’re both with me still, sending me pearls of wisdom from the great beyond, telling me over the roar of the engines to: ‘Pick up the pace or you’ll get your butt blown off!’
“Okay, maybe that’s not them. But it’s still good advice.”
Rachel lives in Singapore with her husband, baby boy, and
rescue pup named Jessica Shadow Shady Lady Lauro.
