To win over the chief’s haughty son, a drug-dealing punk from a dysfunctional family must risk the only two things he has: his reputation and freedom.
Billy Redsky, a rebellious punk who loves art and nature, is saddled with a welfare-leeching, alcoholic mother and criminal older brother who are the joke of their Ojibway community. Sick and tired of being perceived as a loser, Billy deals drugs for his older brother to earn quick money. He hopes if he buys a dirt bike, he’ll finally impress the chief’s popular and aloof son, René Oshawee.
When
the two are forced to serve detention together, a friendship begins to bloom,
but much to Billy’s frustration, René keeps putting him on ice. To make his
biggest dream come true if he finally wants to call René his own, Billy must
make a huge decision that could cost him everything.
Interview:
Hey
Maggie! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could
stop by for a chat! TWO PRINCES sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to
read it!
For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the TWO PRINCES and the characters?
I sure can!
Two Princes is the first book in the When We Were Young series. Here is the series tagline and blurb:
I thought I saved you, but
maybe you saved me too.
Blurb: At their Ojibway community, Billy Redsky, a drug-dealing punk,
and René Oshawee, the chief’s haughty son, must walk the “red road” to finally
confront their biggest fears: conquering the self-imposed obstacles in
their path, if they are to have what they long for above anything else—to
finally be together.
What are you working on now?
I finished proofs with Devine Destinies for Toy
Soldiers, the second book in the When We Were Young series, and I’m
fast-drafting the third book in the series, tentatively called Knight Moves. I also finished proofs with eXtasy Books for
my Thanksgiving short story called Because of You. And I’m in edits with Devine Destinies for my
Christmas short story called Better Than Gold.
So expect new releases from me in October, November,
and December!
Were any of the characters in the book
inspired by people from your real life?
No. Every
character I write comes from my imagination.
Who was your favorite character to
write? What about your least favorite?
For Two Princes, or for all of my published
books so far? If we’re talking about Two
Princes, definitely Billy Redsky. I
really adore his tenacity, his go-getting attitude, and his spunkiness.
If we’re talking all of my books, Emery Matawapit
from Blessed, book one in the Matawapit Family Series. I admire Emery’s spirituality, his patience,
kindness, and ability to view the world from the many POVs of others.
What is your favorite passages/scenes in
TWO PRINCES?
This is tough because I love every scene in the
book. If I must pick one, I’d say it’s
Billy in the hot seat. I can’t say much
else or I’ll give away some spoilers!
What kind of research did you have to do
for the story?
First Nations policing. Thank goodness the husband and I have First
Nations constables as friends (and one is my nephew in law!) One in particular was a big help with
criminal court, family court, the law, etc.
Who is your ultimate book boyfriend/girlfriend?
I always hear the word book boyfriend but I’m not
sure what it means LOL. But if I’m to
pick my fave romance pairing, no other couple out of all the books I’ve read so
far (and I’ve read tons and tons) has ever come close to Chandos and Courtney
Hart from A Heart So Wild by Johanna Lindsey.
What inspired you to write this story?
Grunge and the 90s, because that’s when the book
takes place. I love that era very much,
and the music.
Lightning
Round Questions
What are you
reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
I’m currently reading Memoir
of a Roadie by Joel Miller. Being a
total music junkie, I’m always reading memories/biographies/autobiographies
about everything related to the music industry, whether about musicians,
groupies, wives, managers…and now a roadie!
As for what’s next in the
queue, I’ll be starting Grandstand by Amy-Alex Campbell, a m/m contemporary
romance set in Australia.
Instagram, Twitter
or Facebook?
I’m not a big fan of social
media. I only use it because I have to
as a writer. I don’t have
Instagram. Facebook and Twitter are all
about I can handle. I’d say
Facebook.
Favorite
Superhero?
Nanabush. He is the “superhero” in traditional Ojibway stories.
Favorite TV
show?
Murdoch Mysteries
Sweet or
Salty?
Salty
Any Phobias?
I’m not a big fan of
heights.
Song you
can’t get enough of right now?
Rollin’ by State of Shock
Fall 2020 Movie
you’re most looking forward to?
I can’t say I’m looking forward to any fall movies. I tend to wait for them to come on TV, and I
watch them then. But if there is a new
Star Trek movie coming out, I’d be the first in line. I am loving the Star Trek reboot.
Thanks so much Maggie for answering my questions! I
can’t wait for everyone to read TWO PRINCES!
About Maggie:
An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with
her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes. When
she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing
the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf
course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s
house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most.
