"A powerful, raw and vulnerable read.”—Olivia Munn, actress, The Newsroom
"Unflinchingly candid. Unspeakably sexy. And oh, so curiously entertaining."—Steve Antin, Golden Globe winner, Burlesque
Imagine if Sex and the City's Samantha discovered she was an
addict and her drug of choice was MEN. Go on a hilarious, inspiring, and at
times, shocking journey as Roxanne conquers her fears, changes her ways,
gets closer to healthy relationships and begins loving herself a little more
each day.
After years of working as an image-obsessed actress in Hollywood, Roxanne finds
herself at rock bottom from a disease that is anything but glamorous.
In her first year of recovery, Roxanne has to take accountability for her past.
From tales of being mistaken for a prostitute at the Hotel Bel-Air to botching
a threesome attempt with an A-list celebrity, she must face the truth about
herself and stop playing the victim.
Roxanne's odyssey of using sex and love—as destructive and beguiling as an
alcoholic reaching for a bottle—is a veritable rollercoaster of ups and downs,
laughter and tears, and a true testament to facing your absolute truth and
conquering your fears.
Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex & Love Addict has the vibrant,
relatable vibe of chick lit, the soul-baring honesty of
a memoir and the wisdom of a self-help book.
So take a front-row seat into this complex world and the 10 RULES Roxanne
learns along the way.
“Actress Brianne Davis takes us behind the glitz and glamour for a brutally
candid, no-holds-barred look at Tinseltown’s forever-favorite addiction: sex.
You’ll cry... and laugh... as you join her harrowing and hilarious ride to
sex-addiction sobriety.” —Spencer Beck, former editor-in-chief
of LA Confidential, editor-in-chief Los Angeles and contributing
editor at Vanity Fair
“Brianne tells the story of navigating a world where sex and beauty are
commodities to be used and abused by those who have the power. Like Sex and the
City, this is a tale of finding one’s self and reasserting a true feminist
ideal: that your destiny is yours to create.” —Lucy Danziger, New
York Times best-selling author of The Nine Rooms of Happiness and
former editor-in-chief of SELF
“It takes a lot of courage to do what Brianne is doing in this book. To mirror
her life into Roxanne is not only fearless, but wildly entertaining. It’s a
world with so much darkness, yet Brianne has not only found the humor but the
story to bring it to life because lets face it, we all want to know
more.” —Jana Kramer, singer, actress on One Tree Hill, and New
York Times best-selling author of The Good Fight

Rule 2: Believe in your own form of
GOD, not anyone else’s.
I was jamming it out when it happened.
Something that changed the course of my evening. I got that dreaded text from
THE EX!
You know who I’m
talking about, the ex that broke your heart, but you also broke theirs.
No, it wasn’t
ATL or NYC.
It’s that other
one, the one you always think about when you shouldn’t.
The relationship you completely lost yourself in and the ex-boyfriend you would
do anything for. The one that crushed your soul into a million pieces when he
slept with your best friend. The one that you were using as an excuse to never
fully commit to someone else.
You know the one I’m
talking about. Don’t act like you don’t! You’re
probably thinking about him or her right now.
It was his text that changed my night
after my first SLAA meeting. He simply texted, “I was at Target today and it made me
think about you.”
“WTF?”
I blurted in my car followed by “What the fuck is that?”
What was a girl supposed to do with
that kind of text? Do you text back: Thanks? Do you ignore it? Do you do a smile
emoji?
I was in shock because I hadn’t heard from him in 10 months. He had to text me that
night? What are the chances of that?
That’s
when the lyrics from the Chicago song really impinged on me—maybe I’m the inspiration and meaning for his life?
It had to be my new God friend, right?
Making up for my damaged bumper. It had to be a sign.
So, I texted him back with a simple
question, “Where
are you?” I did add that emoji with the heart in the eyes to let him know
that I was being sweet.
Yes, I know it’s
not safe to text on the highway, but it was bumper-to-bumper traffic on the
freeway. There is always traffic in Los Angeles, even at 10 pm. Please come
visit and make more traffic for us, it would be so much fun.
Kidding, please stay home.
Riding the celebrity homes tour bus or
staring at the Mann’s Chinese theater is
not that exciting. Just stay home and watch movies about LA. I promise you—you’re not missing anything. If I didn’t
need to be here for my job, I would never live here.
Now what should we call the ex of all
exes? I can’t tell you his real name, he’s a well-known actor. Let’s
call him West! Mostly because I think he was from West Virginia, but I could be
wrong. I get a lot of the details of men mixed up in my head.
West replied swiftly, “I’m back in town Toots. Done shooting my CW series in
Vancouver, so just chillin’!”
That was it. Nothing else was said for
the next 30 minutes while I was stuck in traffic.
I got annoyed. I was not going to
respond back, especially knowing he slept with my last costar. That would make
me look desperate and I was not desperate!
As I was pulling off my exit on La
Cienega Blvd from the 10 East, I was seething. Then another text pinged, “You want
to come over and hang?”
A sly smile spread across my face.
I’d won the
text battle. He caved first.
Quickly typing before my conscious
mind took over, “Sure, same house?” He responded with
the stupid thumbs- up emoji.
Fair warning—this guy wasn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier. But he was fine
as hell. He had an amazing body and he was very easy to laugh with. Plus, he
was always in a good mood, so I gladly headed over for a needed boost.
I pulled into his long driveway and
reached into my glove box for body wipes. Yes, I keep everything in my car. I’m an auditioning actress. We have to be prepared for
everything. I used my makeup wipes to clean my 3Ps just in case. It was the
courteous thing to do after stress sweating in the meeting.
I got out of the car, feeling fresh
and ready.
