In this upper middle grade series, a pre-teen international thief turns over a new leaf (sort of) to right societal wrongs in her snooty new town. For Frankie, using her less-than-legal set of skills to pull a heist against a crooked real estate mogul with the help of her new friend Ollie was super gratifying, but she's getting restless now. In the second book in the series, the potentially reformed thief dives into the dangerous and political world of trafficking exotic animals. Frankie and Ollie hear that there's a dangerous exotic animal farm supplying Greenwich's elite with lions and tigers and bears. Feeling an instant kinship with the endangered creatures locked away in their cages, Frankie makes it her mission to find the perpetrators, free the beautiful beasts, and ensnare the bad guys in a trap of her own.

Top 5 Fave Book Series
By Brittany Geragotelis
1. Harry
Potter by J.K. Rowling
Like a lot of people, Harry Potter rocked my world. In fact, I think it was the first
time that any book series was treated like an actual rock star. Besides the fact that I was completely transfixed
by the world that Rowling had created and truly wished I could’ve gone to
Hogwarts myself, the series brings back such great personal memories for me. I
was one of those readers—an adult reader, I might add—that lined up at Barnes
& Noble in NYC, and waited for the book to go on sale at midnight. Then,
like so many others, I stayed up all night long to read the new release.
There’s never been a phenomenon quite like it, before or since, and I’m sort of
sad that my kids won’t get the chance to experience the excitement of a Harry
Potter book coming out.
2. Size
12 Is Not Fat (Heather Wells mysteries) by Meg Cabot
I’m pretty sure that Meg Cabot was my first
author crush. I was so impressed by the voice of her characters, the cleverness
of her stories and her career in general. I was introduced to her books with The Princess Diaries, but it was her Heather
Wells series that really got me. It’s a mystery being solved by a former pop
star? Are you kidding? The storylines are killer and Heather Wells is totally
relatable and enjoyable and so much fun. I think I’ve read the series maybe a
dozen times and check back in at least once a year to see if Cabot has answered
my reading prayers and continued the story.
3. The Hunger
Games by Suzanne Collins
Another series that’s probably on most
readers’ lists. I loved the Hunger Games
because it was so edgy and smart, while simultaneously being horrifying and
tragic. Knowing that it was meant for teens shocked me to my core, but at the
same time, I was so impressed that Collins had known that teens could handle
it. Katniss is such a kick-ass, yet reluctant heroine, and the world that was
created was so rich and sharp that it was easy to fall in love with the series.
Though, I do have to say, unlike Hogwarts, I’m not exactly looking to be picked
as a tribute anytime soon.
4. Truly
Devious by Maureen Johnson
Looks like this is the only current series that is on my list, so
you know it’s gotta be good. What can I say? It’s a murder mystery set at an
elite boarding school for talented kids. It’s got everything I love in a story
and then some. Also, Johnson might’ve written one of my favorite scenes in book
history when she made a goth kid confess his love for all things Disney. I’d
read anything she writes from here on out, just because of that.
5. I’d
Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls series)
by Ally Carter
I feel like this one captures my writing vibe
best. I love me a strong, kick-ass girl who wants to save the world. Put that
in a sassy little package and make her smart and funny, and you’ll have my
undying fan loyalty forever.
