Five-hundred years bloody of civil war ends in massacre or redemption based on the heart of one actress who never wanted this power.
Kascia is
shattered when they ask her to join the Enthronement. She wanted nothing more
than her planned out life performing at the theater and marrying the man she'd
been betrothed to since she was a young girl. But she's left broken and unsure
of her existence when the men in her life, who should have loved her, pressure
her to join the Enthronement – a contest to prove one girl a true princess and
marry the crown prince – so she can let her father's rebels in to assassinate the
royal family.
But Kascia loses all confidence in the truths she once held dear as
she enters the palace and find the royal family are not the greedy slobs she'd
believed whose ancestors had started a 500-year long civil war by raising the
taxes to insane rates all at once. Taxes that are still in place. She doesn't
just find the prince innocent and endearing, but the king is more a lovable
slightly inappropriate grandfather than a hard-fisted tyrant. The queen isn't a
cold overload but an elegant though overbearing mother anxious to protect her
family and her people.
Can Kascia let her father assassinate the royal family when they
aren't what the people believe? If the royal family aren't encouraging the
bloodshed, who is? Or is there a reason this spark between them is
forbidden?
Kascia must
find the answers in time. But can she before the time runs out? Or will the
blood be on her hands when the war kills every last man, woman, and child left
in Purerah?

Charity Mae’s Top 5 Video Games
Video games were something I only
really started to enjoy as an adult. That love of video games has brought so
much to my writing. So this post is celebrating that by sharing my top 5 video
games as of 2022.
5. Luigi’s Mansion 3
This was a super hard pick. I love
gaming, but don’t have a lot of time, and don’t get to play often, but I played
this game 100% co-up with my best friend and it was so much fun it made me like
a 3D platformer which I normally really don’t like. So, it was this or Five
Nights at Freddy’s because I love watching it. I’ve only played like the first
quarter of Security Breach, so didn’t feel it counted.
4. Pokémon Legends Arceus
I grew up with my only video games
being Pokémon, Pokémon Sapphire and Pokémon Emerald were my first games ever
and only games until I was older and bought more Pokémon games myself. But I really enjoyed this mix of Breath of
the Wild style Pokémon hunting. I enjoyed the darker story, sneaking to catch
Pokémon, and the way we built the PokeDex.
3. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
So I could also put the original
Hyrule Warriors in this slot too. I find I like the hack and slash, but mostly
it was the co-up with my best friend that made me enjoy this so much! I just
loved playing with my favorite game characters with friends and being a
commander like I do in my books with friends.
2. Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD
I love Legend of Zelda. More on that
later, but I really enjoy the world, and playing Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
HD for the first time I thought I’d hate it, but after I finally beat it, I
just wanted to go back and play it again. I just get caught up in the story and
I love puzzles, and Zelda games are full of puzzles.
1. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
Seeing a pattern yet? This game brought
me to video games. It really did. As I mentioned, I played some Pokémon growing
up, but it was buying a switch to try out this game that sucked me into video
games. I knew NOTHING about Legend of
Zelda other than the character you play as is Link not Zelda. But the way it
just throws you into the world with no memories so you learn and really can
just put yourself into the characters shoes. The story and how you integrate it
was amazing and taught me so much about making relatable characters. And it has
made me an avid Legend of Zelda fan. I’ve played every game that’s come out
since Breath of the Wild that’s Legend of Zelda and have way too much Zelda
merch. (So yes, I’m counting down to this May.)
Thank you for reading, and if you want
to see more from me don’t forget to check out The Enthronement which
is my latest release with The Conviction (it’s squeal) coming in a few
weeks.
About Charity Mae:
Charity Mae
lives near Mt. Shasta in Northing California and loves the nature there (though
she’d like some more snow and rain). She wrote her first 700+ book when she was
eleven-year-old and published her first book when she was twenty-one.
When she’s
not reading and writing, she enjoys making and watching YouTube videos, gaming
(mostly Legend of Zelda and Pokemon), Shark Week, hiking, swimming, and sitting
outside while working on projects.
Her works
are calculated to be lifting. Works that bring inspiration, escape, and hope. A
story can be dark and painful but there is always hope in the end. That’s what
we all need to believe to find happiness in the storm. It’s why dancing in
puddles is so fun! We take a moment to stop and smell the roses we’ll all be
happier. We all need an escape now and then.
