In her
existential crisis era.
Easy-going Megan
Riley is hiding something. Years ago, a family tragedy left her with a fortune
—and terrible survivor’s guilt. Even her inner circle doesn’t know her secrets.
But her friends need an angel investor for their new app, and Megan has the cash.
She’s thrilled to make their dreams come true, so long as she remains out of
the spotlight. If only it were that easy.
Giving uptight
vibes.
Straight-laced
Luke Paris is in Nashville to market a new dating app. It’s a killer
opportunity. Except he didn’t realize a friend group came attached. Luke is
lousy at socializing and avoids small talk, but the enigmatic Megan immediately
captures his attention. Fascinated and frustrated, he aches to know the
authentic her. If only he could loosen up and get his foot out of his mouth.
Chat me up,
baby.
On paper, Megan
and Luke don’t match. Online, however, inhibitions vanish and “types” get
redefined. The connection is real—and real hot. Can their steamy secret romance
thrive IRL? Will dynamite digital chemistry survive its collision course with
reality? Or will everything blow up in their faces?
Top 5
favorite scenes and why.
For a
pantser like me, writing any novel is predicated on key scenes I have in my
head. I don’t begin with an outline like a plotter would. Instead, I spend time
thinking about the characters and bringing them to life by imagining what
they’d do and say. Sometimes scenes I envision get directly transcribed into
the book. Sometimes they get modified, but they keep the essence of my original
idea. Sometimes they have to be deleted altogether.
Choosing
five favorite scenes is hard! I’ll start with Just Your Type, but I’m
definitely going to mention a few other novels for this list. This top five
list is in random order.
#1: The
Big Reveal in Just Your Type
No spoilers,
sweetie, but we have some hidden identity themes here. Things blow up when Luke
and Megan realize just who they are to each other. That drama mixed with
attraction was a super fun and fiery scene to get just right. It went through
several iterations before the final version.
#2: Luke
& Megan on the OCR in Just Your Type
I run
Spartan in real life. So adding an obstacle course race to Just Your Type
was super fun for me. Even more fun was turning a muddy, sweaty challenge into
a little foreplay for my sweethearts. Imagining them hauling that sandbag made
me laugh and swoon!
#3: The
epilogue to Just Your Type
The novel
ends in a restaurant that I personally had a very lovely date in. Putting Luke
& Megan there for a super-happy ending felt right, especially since it’s an
authentically French place. Beyond the setting, I loved the tie-in to the
book’s opening scene—and how Luke so swiftly changed the script on her.
#4. The
first kiss/argument in Nemesis
(book 3)
Oh man.
Olivia and Will, who you see as side characters in Just Your Type, had a
fiery and bumpy road to couple hood. But their first kiss in Nemesis is
probably my favorite scene of all time. The fighting, the buildup, the
fire—yes. Just, yes.
#5. The
meet-cute in The Not So Nice Girl
This book is
a prequel to my series. It’s set in 1986, and so I got to set Elle and Sam’s
meet-cute in a record shop. Their banter about The Cure and Red Hot Chili
peppers, her use of a line from Cosmopolitan magazine—everything about
it is 80s fun with plenty of spark!
