“Should I?” he asks, his crimson eyes gleaming with mischief.
“Jack, stop messing around and open the door!” Verona huffs,
her tone playful.
“I think you’ve had your fun. Besides… they’re all waiting,”
Algernon adds, though the glint in his eyes betrays his amusement beneath the
austere facade.
Vaidrin blinks, remembering the others mentioned upon
awakening from death’s sleep. “They are?” His gaze shifts nervously between
Algernon and Jack.
Jack smiles, a low growl rumbling in his throat. “Remember
how I said you’d never be alone again?” With those words, his monstrous claws
effortlessly pull the doors wide, releasing a flood of red light that spills
into the room like fresh blood, painting the floors, walls, and the assembled
group in its ruby hue.
“JACK!” A jubilant chorus erupts through the narrow gap
between the gargantuan doors. Jack’s claws grip the golden handles with eerie
