She thought it was real. She was wrong.
When Sophia wakes up in 15th-century England, she expects hardship—but
nothing prepares her for this brutal, unforgiving world. Lost, alone, and
desperate to return to her husband and son, she vows to find a way home. But as
weeks pass, Sophia finds kinship and purpose in this strange land.
After a violent attack, she takes fate into her own hands, disguising
herself as a man to train under Henry, the castle’s enigmatic master-at-arms.
As steel clashes and their connection deepens, forbidden desire ignites.
Yet Henry is not the knight he claims to be. His real name is Ethan, and
this is the least of the lies he tells her. Falling for Sophia was never part
of the plan—but the closer they become, the more he realises how wrong it is to
keep her in the dark.
As danger closes in and the lines between reality and deception blur,
Sophia must uncover the truth about Henry—and herself—before she runs out of
time.
Outlander meets Black Mirror in this sizzling dark time travel romance.
*Warning: strong language, steamy scenes, and graphic violence inside.
Mention/Description of, but not limited to, abduction, blood, death,
amputation, childbirth, death, sexual assault, suicide, violence against
children, rape, and torture.*
The book is the first in a duology and ends with a cliffhanger.
Top 5 favorite Video
Games. (Jaime here. I’m going to comment on some of the games since I love them
too!)
I don’t play video games much on my own—I’d rather curl up
with a book—but when I do, I love diving into deep, choice-driven RPGs with my
partner. And honestly? Some of these games tell better stories with better plot
twists than most movies today. Here are my top five favourites:
1. Baldur’s Gate 3
Co-op adventures don’t get better than this. The
storytelling, the choices (often between bad and worse), and the ability to
shape your character’s fate—it’s everything I love in a game. Plus, playing
with my partner makes every decision feel even more intense. Should we save the
innocent villager… or loot their corpse for a better sword? Tough choices.
2. Divinity: Original Sin 2
Another fantastic co-op RPG where every decision matters. The
turn-based combat is incredible, but it’s the story that hooked me—political
intrigue, betrayal, and moments where I just sat there, controller in hand,
thinking, Did we really just do that? The freedom to roleplay and shape the
world is unmatched.
3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
I still remember watching my partner play this during COVID,
completely absorbed in the world. The expansion Blood and Wine, set in a
medieval, South-of-France-inspired land, felt like a virtual holiday when we
were all stuck at home. The game nails morally grey choices, and Geralt’s world
is both brutal and beautiful.
Jaime- Agree with all of the above! I LOVE The Witcher 3 so
much so that I’ve played it twice and it’s a long game lol. I love the stories
and all of the fun side missions!
4. Cyberpunk 2077
Dystopian, heartbreaking, and packed with impossible
choices—what’s not to love? The story pulled me in completely, and the setting
is just stunning. It’s one of those games where you sit there after finishing
it, staring at the screen, unsure what to do with yourself.
5. Horizon Zero Dawn
The blend of post-apocalyptic sci-fi and ancient landscapes
is breathtaking, and Aloy’s journey is one of my favourite in gaming. The
twists! The mystery behind the world kept me hooked, and the giant robot
dinosaurs were just a bonus!
Jaime- This and Horizon Forbidden West are 2 of my all-time
favorite games! I love them so much that Aloy is my Playstation Avatar.
Oh, and Ghost of Tsushima deserves a shout-out—those stunning
Japanese landscapes were pure balm for my soul.
Jaime- This is one of the mist visually stunning games I have
ever played! I will replay it from time to time just so I can see the beautiful
scenery. Also if you’re a Ghost fan give Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Rise of
the Ronin a try. They’re both set in feudal Japan and are equally beautiful and
super fun!
About Eliza Hampstead:
Award-winning
author Eliza Hampstead is a scientist by training but a storyteller at heart.
When she’s not lost in writing (or researching obscure medieval facts she
swears are relevant to the plot), she’s fully embracing her geeky side—whether
that’s strategising over a board game, getting emotionally invested in an RPG,
or conquering virtual worlds.
A lifelong
fantasy lover, she’s always dreaming up her next adventure—both on the page and
in real life. If time travel were possible, she’d already be in medieval
England, probably getting into trouble with a sword. Until then, she’ll settle
for writing stories filled with forbidden love, surprising twists, and just the
right amount of spice.
